Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)

Book Description
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Read in three days By Melinda
Great read! Not quite as good as the first book, "The Hunger Games," but still dramatic and page-turning and beautifully-imagined. Dark and brutal like the first, I loved the development of Katniss and Peeta's relationship, and the complexities of politics that come up. I also enjoy the horrible twist at the beginning, and the way contestants work together. The ending left us hanging, very "Empire Strikes Back," but I loved it so much I didn't mind. I'm making myself wait to read "Mockingjay," to prolong the enjoyment, but I could easily have read them back to back. Suzanne Collins, you're amazing. I didn't even mind the present tense.

A Must Read By Sixxy
If anyone hasn't read this book, buy it and do so now. You won't be disappointed. Catching Fire is a wonderful sequel to The Hunger Games, and a literary masterpiece. Warning though, it does have some violence so I'd recommend it for 12+ years of age. Can't wait to read Mockingjay and see The Hunger Games movie in March of 2012!

Great book. I wasn't blown away the first time I read it, but when I finished the series I grew to love them a lot. They are now among my favorite books.

Thrilling By Redangelusmc
After blazing through the first book in 2 days I read this in 1. Completely engrossed in the world Collins has created, I just bought the the third book and will start it tomorrow when I get home! I can't wait for her next book/series, as long as she keeps this style up I'll be a reader of hers for life.

Awesome Second book By Aaron Lee (Idaho falls)
The second book in the Hunger Games trilogy takes off right where The Hunger Games left off. I read this book in 3 days and it was fantastic. We not only get to see more unraveling of the Capitol but we begin to see the impact Katniss has made on the districts and the fear and hate the Capitol has for this one young woman. All that she holds near and dear to her are threatened and their lives depend on her ability to calm the other districts from revolution.

I found myself liking this book more than the first because there was less cheesy love triangle stuff and more Viva Revolution! and more violence from the first. I am kind of a sucker for violence like this in books. This book gave you a glimpse of the creativity this author has put into the "how to kill off these characters". Each death is tied to the next in this book, everything you think about this book will be twisted and turned and as you read the last sentence your mind will be blown!
