About the Author
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 in the log cabin described in Little House in the Big Woods. She and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier. For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.

Unwrapping the yellow 9 book set one Christmas several years ago, was probably one of the best Christmases I ever had. I couldn't wait to read the first book and opening it's pages and following a young Laura through her life in the Big Woods made my heart soar! I have read these books countless times over and over, especially when I needed to read for comfort. Laura and her family were at times, my closest friends. A wonderful gift for the young reader in your life!

Enjoyable, Like Going Back in Time By Annoyed Grandmother
I bought this set for my 9 year old granddaughter. So far she hasn't read any of them. I'm planning a trip to South Dakota. I intend to stop at Walnut Grove MN and DeSmit SD to visit the Laura Ingalis Wilder Museums. I decided to read the books as well as her biography by Pamela Smith Hill. I started the book set reading 2 of the books before starting the biography.

Then I decided to go back to the set because they are referenced so often in Hill's book. I love reading Laura's books. I realize someof the stories are fictionalized but they wouldn't be interesting, especially to a young girl without that. I am on my 6th book and can't put them down. I'm not as thrilled by Ms Hill's book. She is very critical of both Laura and her daughter Rose, Considering the time period in which Laura grew up I think she has done a wonderful job painting a picture of what it was like in the 1800's.

I really hope my granddaughter decides to read these. With everything available for children today it's refreshing to see what life was like when we only had each other for fun and comfort.

The little house series was one of my childhood favorites. It is written for children to understand, but unlike most books that they forced kids to read in school the plot was interesting and I didn't get boared fast.

These are wonderful, heartfelt, wholesome stories of family, struggles, faith, strength and a belief in the American Dream. Great tales for the entire family. I'm a "senior" and I've read these books every few years for the past 60 years. I only wish there were a series of stage plays based on them.

Every girl needs to have this set By H. Baratta
I was given this set as a gift when I was young - we'll say more than 20 years ago. I read them so much that a couple of the books are starting to fall apart. My oldset step-daughter is an avid reader so I paid it forward and got her this set for her birthday about 5 years ago. I'm disappointed that she never read them. All this Twilight junk and stuff like that out there nowadays really takes away from good classics like this. I will be passing down these books to my daughter when she is old enough to read them.
