The Litigators

Product Description
The partners at Finley & Figg—all two of them—often refer to themselves as “a boutique law firm.” Boutique, as in chic, selective, and prosperous. They are, of course, none of these things. What they are is a two-bit operation always in search of their big break, ambulance chasers who’ve been in the trenches much too long making way too little. Their specialties, so to speak, are quickie divorces and DUIs, with the occasional jackpot of an actual car wreck thrown in. After twenty plus years together, Oscar Finley and Wally Figg bicker like an old married couple but somehow continue to scratch out a half-decent living from their seedy bungalow offices in southwest Chicago.

And then change comes their way. More accurately, it stumbles in. David Zinc, a young but already burned-out attorney, walks away from his fast-track career at a fancy downtown firm, goes on a serious bender, and finds himself literally at the doorstep of our boutique firm. Once David sobers up and comes to grips with the fact that he’s suddenly unemployed, any job—even one with Finley & Figg—looks okay to him.

With their new associate on board, F&F is ready to tackle a really big case, a case that could make the partners rich without requiring them to actually practice much law. An extremely popular drug, Krayoxx, the number one cholesterol reducer for the dangerously overweight, produced by Varrick Labs, a giant pharmaceutical company with annual sales of $25 billion, has recently come under fire after several patients taking it have suffered heart attacks. Wally smells money.

A little online research confirms Wally’s suspicions—a huge plaintiffs’ firm in Florida is putting together a class action suit against Varrick. All Finley & Figg has to do is find a handful of people who have had heart attacks while taking Krayoxx, convince them to become clients, join the class action, and ride along to fame and fortune. With any luck, they won’t even have to enter a courtroom!

Great Read By Billwpp (Orlando USA)
I have been a Grisham fan for a long time. Some of his books I loved and some not so much. The Litigators was one I loved. The characters come to life and are each an interesting study in human dynamics. With charaters that seem alive and with a gripping, entertaining story, what was not to like ?? I found the book in my mailbox on Monday, October 24th and finished it today the 25th. A book you cannot put down is a book worth reading.

Love you Grisham! By Carol Quintana (Las Cruces, NM United States)
I so thoroughly enjoyed reading this book (thanks for the Kindle version!), just couldn't put it down until complete, frequently laughing out loud at the hilarious capers of this small group of unforgetable boutique litigators. Left me wanting to know what's next for our hero David Zinc!

Grisham is back! By Parentsof2
I have loved Grisham books for a long time now, but I found his last few novels to be lacking something. This one, however, is like the Grisham of old - fun to read, kept me guessing, and brought to life the world of law. This is one I will definitely enjoy re-reading someday, and will keep my fingers crossed that it is made into a movie!

grisham does it again By Anna M. Main (Ellwood City, Pa)
I throughly enjoyed this book. It was very hard to put down once I started reading it. John Grisham has once again created a winner. I am an avid fan of his and love to read his books.

Really enjoyable. Grisham at his finest By Mysticalman
Over the years, I have enjoyed Grisham's novels, and already read about fourteen of them, so I was looking forward reading The Litigators. Well, I'm not going to write a full review of the book, but let me just say that this one is perhaps one of the best three Grisham novels I have read, so don't hesitate, just buy it and immerse yourself in a world full of endearing characters.
As a side note not related to the book, I'm considering going back to buying my beloved paper books instead of Kindle ones. E-books sometimes priced higher than a hardcover? It's simply ridiculous!

Super Fun Read By P. Stewart (Dallas, Tx)
Mr. Grisham has turned a dismal profession into an entertaining read. The deadly boring subject matter is brought alive by lively characters. The only part I disliked was reading the last paragraph.

Grisham's best by far By Marilyn Mason-Plunkett
I have read all of John Grisham's fiction and this is by far the best! A few of his more recent books have felt a bit formulaic, but not this one. It's an engaging and original page turner that has suspense, humor, heart and--best of all-- a great plot. I read it in a single sitting, as I couldn't put it down.

Entertaining! By LB reader (Southfield, MI)
I read this in one day, and I hated to put it down for one minute. John Grisham is one of my favorite authors and I always enjoy his books. I must say this was one of the most entertaining reads that I've read in a long time, I hate that I read it so fast, I could have savored it for at least a few days, but it was just so enthralling!! This should be made into a motion picture, I would love to see this on the big screen.

A great new Grisham novel By A&D (New York, USA)
I always thought that the very first Grisham books were the best. He had a passion in his text. Then after that he seems to become more tired of writing. His characters are not so alive. His stories were always about a young lawyer going against the big corporations or against the loopholes in the legal and political systems. His success was not surprising. I did not like the books like the Broker so much, but then this book was better again reminding me of his first books.

The characters like Oscar Finley and Wally Figg, partners at Finley & Figg are detailed in their description and also sometimes funny and sometimes not even likeable. These lawyers are trying get by in their miserable lives by trying to get some money out of their clients and of any situation possible.

David Zinc is another memorable character tired of the excessive working in a huge legal firm. Then one day Figg finds out about a potentially huge lawsuit against a pharmaceutical manufacturer, and he starts signing up other clients. And again, Grisham's poor lawyers are against a formidable army of high-paid corporate attorneys. If you liked Grisham's older books like the Client or the Rainman then this is the right book for you.

The Litigators By jec925
"The Litigators" is one of Grisham's best. WEll written and attention holding. The plot is involved and twisting with unexpected consequences.

Excellent book By Poppabear
Excellent book! The kind , that you can't put down.. A must read! Better than watching a movie , it triggers your imagination, a book that you can give to someone and knowing they will enjoy reading n re- reading.

John Grisham is Baaaack By Renee Wilson (Mercer Island, WA)
I have missed the original John Grisham I met in the Firm. Although "The Litigators" did not have the plot level of The Firm, it was indeed a page turner. It was fun, it had lots of characters, good and evil. Best of all, I found myself trying to cast the Movie after finishing the book. I'm sure that Robert Downey Jr. has a part to play, either David or Jerry.
