Self Matters [Paperback]

Product Description
With the scores from these tests, readers can then embark upon a specific plan for changing their lives-and for determining which external and internal forces they will, or won't, allow to control their futures.

Readers familiar with McGraw's aggressive TV personality may be surprised by this book's thoughtful and serious tone. McGraw's notion of making change is not a simple one-it requires readers to examine every aspect of their daily lives-and it's likely that some readers may not be able to make all the changes he advocates.

Customer Reviews
Excellent Stuff By DownunderTrish
I really like all of Dr Phil's stuff. This book is such a revealing insight into your mind. He really understands what's going on in my head. Some of the paragraphs could be chunked down a little as it's sometimes a bit overwhelming, but overall it'a an excellent book.

Solid advice for lifestyle change By Dejan Holder
McGraw's book is basically about opening your eyes and having a serious, honest look at your life and where its going. If its going where you want to go, fine. If it isn't, he stresses that you have to be honest and admit to yourself that it isn't going correctly, and if so, don't just sit back or bury your head in the sand and hope to end up where you should be, whether in relationships, or work or parenthood.

A very useful read By Peter Strong (Boulder, CO, USA)
As a mindfulness based psychotherapist, author and teacher, I found the advice in this book to be very helpful. I find that when such good strategies as presented here are combined with mindfulness meditation, which provides a way of of establishing a healthy, non-reactive inner therapeutic space in which difficult emotions, depression, anxiety and trauma can heal. If you would like to couple this sound advice with the healing power of mindfulness, then I also recommend 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation' available through Amazon.

Getting to Know Yourself By Dr. Jane Branam (Charlotte NC)
Dr. Phil wrote this book for you if you are constantly trying to live up to others' expectations of you rather than to your authentic identity. If you are unsure of the person you really are, his exercises can help if you do them. He has you list your Ten Defining Moments, Seven Critical Choices and Five Pivotal People. The exercises really have to be done to be useful. While I think it is a very good book, I would have liked more stories and examples, since I think as is obvious from his TV show that this is where he really shines.

Self Matters By Monica Jackson (Satsuma, Florida)
This book changed the way I look at myself and the way I look at the rest of the world. One of the best books I've ever read and I recommend it to anyone who wants to change their perception and get the most out of their life.

First steps to healing and exploring yourself By Natz301 (Atl, GA)
I started slow with this book, and then I got to a point where everything was clicking and it was so cathartic to do the excercise. After this book, you will be able to move on to more deep concept self-help books, and really I don't think of this stuff as self-help I feel like there is NO ONE out there who doesn't need a little mental tune up. Great place to start in the discovery of yourself.

EVERYONE should read! By Jean Crawford (Al USA)
